HOW TO WORK WITH WATERSLIDE DECALS:
1. Preparation
• Ensure the surface you’re working on is clean and completely dry.
• Cut the decal to the desired size and shape, leaving a small border around the design.
2. Soaking in Water
• Fill a bowl with lukewarm water.
• Submerge the decal in the water for 30-60 seconds, or until the decal starts to slide easily off the backing paper.
3. Application
• Place the decal on the desired surface while it is still on the backing paper.
• Gently slide the decal off the backing paper onto the surface using your finger or a soft tool.
4. Smoothing and Positioning
• Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently smooth the decal, removing air bubbles and excess water.
• Make sure the decal is properly aligned and free of wrinkles.
5. Drying
• Let the decal dry for several hours or follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Ensure the surface is completely dry before proceeding with any further steps or heating.
6. Firing (check below)
• If needed, place the piece in a kiln or use a torch (according to the specific instructions for the type of surface and decal).
• Follow the recommended firing curve as specified in the decal instructions.
7. Finishing:
Once fired and fully dried, the piece is ready for use or further artistic work.
FIRING TEMPERATURE RECOMMENDATIONS:
Enamel:
• In a kiln: Fire at 785°C (1445°F) for 1 minute.
• Torch firing: Heat gently until the decal changes color, then continue until it fuses with the enamel background. For more details, watch the video here.
Glass:
• Ramp from 20°C (68°F) to 590°C (1094°F) up to 640°C (1184°F) (depending on the glass type) over 4 hours.
• Hold at the target temperature for 25-30 minutes, then let the kiln cool down.
Ceramic:
• Ramp from 20°C (68°F) to 785°C (1445°F) in 60 minutes (or as quickly as the kiln allows to reach 1445°F).
• Hold at this temperature for 15 minutes, then let the kiln cool down.
